Ending hunger in America depends on the volunteer work of literally millions of Americans who know that they can make a difference. There are as many different ways to volunteer, as there are individuals and communities across this country.
FAQ's
- How do I volunteer at the LCFB?
All volunteers are to attend a mandatory volunteer orientation. We have orientations twice monthly. The February orientation dates are Thursday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, February 21 at 5:00 p.m. Please email LCFB Volunteer Coordinator, Mary Kate McLernon if you plan to attend the orientation. - What are the volunteer opportunities?
* Sort/repackage food for use at food pantries, soup kitchens, and other hunger-relief programs
* Work in the Zucker Family Production Kitchen along side our Food Works Executive Chef
* Assist in the administrative office with mailings, faxing, phone calling, proofreading, etc.
* Conduct workshops on nutrition to our grassroots network of hunger relief agencies
* Work with businesses in the community to encourage them to donate to the Food Bank. As a volunteer, your efforts are particularly meaningful and persuasive
* Organize a food drive or a fundraiser for the Lowcountry Food Bank
* Do a learning-service project with a youth group and have them learn about hunger issues and volunteer at the Food Bank - Can I bring a group?
Yes. We are always in need of group help with the reclamation center in our warehouse - What should I wear?
Close toed shoes (such as tennis shoes) and weather appropriate clothing, as our warehouse is NOT climate controlled. Flip flops, sandals, high heals, or flats are not permitted in the warehouse due to safety requirements. No tank tops please. - What is the age limit for volunteers?
The age limit is 14 years and up. For those who are not 18 they must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years of age. - What times are available?
We have shifts Monday through Friday 9-12pm and 1-3pm. We also have some evening opportunities available on Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm. Shifts are also available on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 9-12pm. There are also opportunites offsite at special events. -
Can I do Pre Trial Intervention Community Service with the Lowcountry Food Bank?
Yes, you can. You will need to attend our volunteer orientation which will not count toward your hours. Please contact Mary Kate McLernon at 747-8146 x120 to check to see if there is space.
