Kids Cafes in The Lowcountry

Children represent hunger's most vulnerable victims. In many national studies, the Lowcountry of South Carolina ranks near the bottom for childhood poverty and infant mortality, especially in rural arrears.

In efforts to confront this widespread problem, the Lowcountry Food Bank participates in the Kids Cafe program, an after-school feeding and tutoring program for at risk children. This nutritious meal program not only feeds hungry children, but promotes good grades in school and better health in young children.

Kids Cafe is a National program of America's Second Harvest, the Nation's Food Bank Network. For more information about the Kids Cafe program on a national level click here.

Kids Cafes are a central tool in our efforts to end childhood hunger in coastal South Carolina. Thirteen Kids Cafes provide nutritious dinner meals and academic assistance to local school children. They also learn about proper nutrition, sanitation and personal cleanliness.

Mission Statement

To provide nutritious meals and academic assistance to disadvantaged children in an environment which is safe and accessible.
