4 Great Reasons For Agencies To Shop At The Lowcountry Food Bank
Reason # 1
| You Get | # of Pounds | ||
| If someone buys you $100 of groceries at the store... | $100 of food products | 75 lbs. | |
| If someone donates $100 and your agency shops at the Food Bank... | $2,000 of food products | 750 lbs. | |
Tax deduction to your tax-exempt agency is approximately $25.00; therefore,
your $100 donation created $1,100 in market value food products for a cost of $75.00.
Because the cost of reclaiming these food products is much lower that their market value, the Lowcountry Food Bank provides $20 in market value food products for every $1 you contribute.
Donors like to see their money go a long way in feeding the hungry!
Reason # 2
It costs the Lowcountry Food Bank approximately $0.13 per pound for food we supply to our member agencies.**
The average shared maintenance cost per pound to our agencies is $0.05 per pound. The Food Bank contributes $0.08 to your agency for every pound of food you receive from us.
This means that we made a 7.5 cents per pound donation to our agencies for every pound of food an agency got from the us (12.2 - 7.5 = 4.7 cents).
**Cost out the door in 1998 was 26 cents; in 1999 it was 19 cents; in 2000 it was 14 cents.

Reason # 3
In 2002, we will distribute 10 million pounds of food with a market value of $14,800,000. We expect to receive $450,000 in shared maintenance fees from our network of approximately 400 member agencies.
If you divide the market value of the food by the shared maintenance fee ($450,000 divided by $14,800,000), then your agency pays for about 3% of the food's market value.
Reason # 4
